Ten Things You Should Know About BioShock Infinite: Day 8

Irrational believes “BioShock” is more than just a specific setting, or a specific set of characters.

A BioShock game is about allowing player expression. It’s about exploring worlds that are larger than life, yet grounded in human experience. Rapture served as that framework for two games, but that city’s story has been told. Although it is not a sequel or prequel in the traditional sense, BioShock Infinite very much builds on and reinvigorates what BioShock established.

Some aspects of why BioShock Infinite is a BioShock game will become clear with the release of the imminent gameplay video. But there are other aspects that are only subtly suggested. Here’s a hint: pay close attention, and watch it more than once.

This is the eighth in a series of short posts about BioShock Infinite being released one a day until the unveiling of its first gameplay demonstration video, which will go live September 21 on Xbox LIVE and Xbox.com, and September 22 elsewhere.

I’ve watched that trailer so many times its ridiculous. It’s great that you guys have identified what a Bioshock game is for you. So many people have been pitching fits about how Infinite can’t be a Bioshock game simply because of the setting change. Can’t wait to see how the demo will lift the veil a little further.

I have no problem with Infinite not being a direct story companion to the other games. It’s like the Zelda or Final Fantasy franchise, where you share certain abilities and themes, but the characters and specific settings don’t transfer from version to version.

I shall see it ONE MILLION TIMES if it means getting your dirty little secret clearly through my eyes into my brain!!!

On a different note, last night i had a dream that i found Bioshock Shorts, it had metallic logos from various companies with like totally awesome colors, but then there were zombies attacking…

An interesting theory floating around about the 3 minute trailer. Perhaps that is a younger Andrew Ryan in the balcony? The intro shows a big daddy in the water and buildings (while I understand most aquariums have buildings in them). It seems like whomever that office belongs to was planing an underwater city with a big daddy.

I hope not. Let Rapture lie down and die, it had a great run and a amazing story I don’t see anyway that they could do Rapture justice by bringing it back.
