After three days spent meeting thousands of friendly and passionate fans, I think we can declare PAX East 2011 a success.
Our booth loomed over the entrance lobby in the Boston Convention Center–a fitting location for our Elizabeth actress and the massive statue of Him that greeted (and posed with) convention attendees.
Being located away from the show floor gave us a great opportunity to chat informally with fans and give away some Dog in a Wheelchair shirts. All of you who visited really made all the planning and preparation worth it. Except for our tireless Elizabeth, everyone at the booth was an Irrational Games employee, and we were all humbled by the enthusiasm and passion of the fans.

We saw people from across the gamer spectrum: casual players all the way up to ambitious cosplayers and tattooed super-fans. At one point, G4 even came by the booth to film a massive gathering of costumed attendees depicting characters from dozens of games.
There were plenty of moments that stuck with those of us manning the booth, including the father named Andrew Ryan with a son named Jack Ryan (really!), the amazing tattoos of Jordan Hill, the story of how BioShock led one man to meet his significant other, and the memory of Ken Levine signing some fans’ chests…both female and male.
On Saturday night, we held a fan party at M.J. O’Connor’s Irish Pub. A couple hundred fans joined a group of Irrational staffers for a night of discussion, drinking, board games, and giveaways.
The atmosphere was relaxed and conversational–exactly what we were hoping for. And after a raffle, a few lucky fans walked away with some coveted prizes: a BioShock Little Sister statue; a Murder of Crows vigor bottle; and a signed, framed print of one of Robb Water’s Game Informer covers. (Check out Irrational community member Syclone’s video of the proceedings.) All attendees were given a BioShock Infinite poster and a t-shirt.
To everyone we met at the booth and the party: thank you! It was the first time we’ve had this kind of presence at a big fan event, and thanks to our fans, it couldn’t have gone better. We can’t wait for the chance to do it again.
Head over to our forums to discuss your PAX East experience. There’s a thread for general impressions from the convention, one about Irrational’s presence, and one with reports from the fan party.

I’m in TWO photos on the PAX post? That’s awesome, thanks guys! Showing ken a pic I took and the back of my hoodie in the last photo. That was an amazing night. I am framing the shirt I had signed.

Good call on that one! I forgot to have my camera rolling for most of it after I checked my bag in! Nice having that kind of service though.
felonious | March 15, 2011 2:55 pm
Yeah Syclone, that’s awesome you taped that moment! Thx for sharing it, certainly not a time to be forgotten!

Thank you ALL for an amazing evening. It was SO much fun and everyone was extremely cool. I thought the chest signing was hilarious, and no, it wasn’t my idea but yes… I did participate. I’m sure Levine never felt more like a rockstar! Thanks for the fantastic hospitality and I can’t wait to see if more events happen!
theparasite | March 15, 2011 2:16 pm
It was really something to remember hehe. His signature may have washed off my chest but his hilarious reaction and the fact that he DID IT will forever remain burned into my memory!

Chris is deadly with the camera, first he gets me and everyone in deep concentration during the Ticket to Ride game. Then while I’m talking to Joe from Irrational, he gets another one. I thought of Nate’s picture introducing him at the World building panel for inspiration for that pose. That one was for you Nate!
felonious | March 15, 2011 3:06 pm
Srsly wish I got to see some of these tattoos in person. Good Stuff!

cutriss | March 15, 2011 5:25 pm
Haha, a camera shot where I don’t look completely atrocious.
Best time I’ve had in a long, long time, and I hope I can do it next year!

Had a blast at the IG party! It was great meeting Sarah, Amanda, Chris, and Ken and, of course, hanging out with my fellow Bioshock posse. Thank you for a truly awesome time (and thank you for the cool swag)!

And I have continued my streak of looking like a total dork in any and all pictures that exist of me. At least they didnt catch me picking my nose or something.
ragingmudcrab | March 15, 2011 8:44 pm
Looks like it was ridiculously fun.
musecuts | March 15, 2011 8:58 pm
Was a great time, and a great way to sum it all up. I’ll always remember PAXEast 2011 by the giant Him that was in the main lobby. So great.
borrego | March 15, 2011 11:27 pm
I found myself in this pic in the top right corner, in a Where’s Waldo sort of fashion. I look lost!
justincavnor | March 16, 2011 9:56 am
Sadder than a dog in a wheelchair for sadly I am a Brit with no way of getting to PAX East. Looked like a great day/ night.
nintendoll | March 16, 2011 11:47 am
There I am, playing Ticket To Ride (the game I won by losing). IMPERIAL SUNSHINE TRAIN LINE!

Sigh….
I was 0 for 5 trying to get tickets for the party at MJ’s. At the Panel on World Creation they gave away 10 wristbands and I was #12 in line.
I hope I can go next year…
Sounds like it was fun…
