Irrational Games today announced that production of downloadable content has recently begun for BioShock Infinite and revealed details of the BioShock Infinite Season Pass.  Three all-new add-on packs will provide hours of additional gameplay and continue the player’s journey in the sky-city of Columbia with new stories, characters, abilities and weapons.

Those who purchase the BioShock Infinite Season Pass will also receive the Early Bird Special Pack at no extra cost. This bonus pack contains four pieces of exclusive gear, a Machine Gun Damage Upgrade, a Pistol Damage Upgrade, a gold skin for both weapons and five Infusion bottles that allow players to increase their health, their shield durability or their ability to use Vigors by increasing the quantity of Salts they can carry.

The BioShock Infinite Season Pass will be available on March 26, 2013 when the game is planned to launch, and provide nearly $30.00 of add-on content for $19.99 (PlayStation®Network, Windows® PC) or 1,600 Microsoft Points (Xbox LIVE® online entertainment network) – a savings of more than 30%. The Season Pass will include all three add-on packs, and can be pre-ordered today through www.bioshockinfinite.com or at a participating retailer.

I sorta feel the same as Kevin, actually. If it can’t be done, perfectly fine, but that would make sense as an addition.

To be honest, I’m not comfortable with day 1 dlc. Additional weapons and abilities are one thing, but withholding some of the story and characters of the game right out of the gate, seems quite shady.

I love irrational games and wish to support the games they make. But this isn’t what I had in mind.

Hey knives, I just wanted to clarify. BioShock Infinite is a complete game and this is actually not day 1 DLC. This announcement is about the production of additional downloadable content coming out in the future and the availability of a season pass that you can purchase at a discount similar to lets say a magazine subscription. Hope this clears it up for you.

When you talk about new characters and stories, you mean different main characters? no Booker and Elizabeth?

@Knives i dunno how DLC works on platforms other than 360, but on there, getting a season pass doesn’t give you all the content right then, it just pre-pays at a discount and you can download it when it comes out (I got the Forza Season Pass and that’s how it worked). It says production has recently begun on the content and they’ve already gone gold, so I don’t imagine it’ll be day 1.

I agree with knives as I expected to play the full course on the take, while buying the game on day one.
So will the additionnal story/ character content (excepted the weapons, gears and items) be seamless integrated to the game or will it be separated?
And what about 1999 mode we haven’t heard about since a long time, is it going to be cut as well? I miss the old way of unlocking things by yourself, not using my wallet…

I’ll be pre-ordering the Season Pass for a few reasons. One, because I missed out on a lot of DLC for the first 2 Bioshock games since I couldn’t afford them. Two, because I want to support Bioshock in all aspects. Three, to have them, but I won’t use them on my first playthrough. <3 BIOSHOCK! WOO!

Do you know about the Ultimate Rapture Edition that came out recently? It has all the DLC from the first two games for a very nice price. Plus an extra or two not originally available, such as a museum level to showcase concept art and the formerlly-exclusive PS3 Challenge Rooms.

Very mixed feelings about this, but I’ll go through with it anyway. I’m just…’meh’ on the path that the gaming industry is going down. It’s becoming too corporate america for my tastes. But I’ll consume like I was taught.

IG, you’re better than season passes. Why can’t you just add to the cost of the original game, instead of hiding the full price behind a second payment? If you have enough extra content, why not make a sequel? If you don’t have enough, why not cut it during the planning phase? Buying into the season pass fad is really a step down, a step that too many good developers have taken.

Did you read the post of IG.Ratana? They are spending money on marketing right now. They are ramping up the hype for the game. It is more cost efficient to advertise, or build up hype for, the core game heavily and inform gamers of additional available content, while giving an opportunity to purchase it, at the same time instead of waiting several months to spend more money on marketing DLC content. 2K and IG know what they are doing. The real question is whether they accurately communicate their message without irritating gamers, as some of you seem to feel.

I am willing to bet all the hard feelings will melt away as people start playing the game and talking to friends about it. Hopefully, this gives an alternative view to some overly irrational gamers.

I don’t believe requesting all content to be included under one price is irrational. I just read the entire post again, and it mentions nothing about marketing. I’m not questioning their ability to market correctly, I’m annoyed that their strategy for marketing is so indignant. The reputation of a developer instantly goes down when they use the season pass technique in my opinion, a blow they cannot redeem, even if the DLC content is great. The season pass concept so degrading to the developer and insulting to me as a consumer. I also think DLC shouldn’t be used at all, unless under certain special circumstances, let alone an awful season pass that guarantees such exceptions.

I’ve been looking at the Preorder option for Canada (finally up!), and GameFly is the only option. Only the Windows PC Version Platform of Bioshock:Infinite “Season Pass” is available? When is it going to be available for preorder from GameStop/EB Games Canada, and for the PlayStation3 gaming platform? I had a look at the U.S.A. options, and only available for Windows Platform only? Am I missing something?

Heyas IG! Thx for your reply! Yes, I called EB Games Canada Store where I preordered my Songbird Edition from, to ask about the “Season Pass”. (Btw, I’ve never heard of GameFly here in Ottawa? They’ve since been removed on the http://www.preorder.com website for Canadians to be able to preorder the Season Pass and get the 4th Bonus “Early Bird Season Pass” at no extra charge!). EB Games says they typically don’t take preorders for Season Pass. I explained to them that preordering this was the ONLY way to get the 4th free DLC! They said they were gonna fire off an email to Head Office and for me to call back next week. Anyway, how can Canadians preorder this? I want that 4th free DLC as well! Thx!

I’ll be honest, I’m a bit disheartened by this. I’m one of those guys who’ll love a game to the ends of the earth, but will still hate the price of 60$ so much that I want kill the guy who came up with that idea in the first place if the game even isn’t that long. Season Passes are such a gamble even I as consumer think they’re tight roping on a burning string.
You’ve developed my childhood, and I love your guys work, an extra $20 isn’t all THAT bad, but it still feels a tad…. wrong.

Haven’t bought any season passes, for that matter i havent bought any games in 2 years. This is the only game im going to buy this year, i hope its good i hope the season pass isnt content they took out just so they could make more money off of there product. and its funny that people that dont like the season pass get rated down. I only wonder why IG is doing the season pass thing like those other game developers are doing, they all copy each others strategies to make money.

Guess what is the best part about DLC? You don’t have to buy it! No one is holding a gun to your head and demanding you purchase the season pass.

I’ve always viewed single player DLC as an optional, enhanced, experience that compliments the main story arch; nothing more. The operative word is “optional.”

Fallout 3 had those 5 great (for the most part) add ons which enhanced the experience but I could have easily bypassed them without impacting the main story.

I don’t really got over this post easily… I don’t have so much money but I wanted to have the best and FULL edition of Bioshock Infinite so I pre-ordered The Ultimate Songbird Edition although it empties my wallet… and I wonder..does it make any sense to pay 150$ for something that is not even full or the best?? Should I pay 30$ more to have the game’s full version?!? And we haven’t even talked about real DLC-s yet…
I can imagine the feeling … getting The Ultimate Songbird Edition on March, 26 and also getting the thought that “It’s not even full…did it worth it?!?!”"
My opinion is that, Irrational Games should put the Season Pass at least into The Ultimate Songbird Edition!

This is excellent news!! I don’t understand the concerns..

Bioshock Infinite will be full experience. They’ve worked on it for over 6 years. Now we have confirmation we’ll be able to get more contents even after it’s over.

Looking back at Minerva’s Den and even the Challenge Rooms, I wish there would have been more DLC for BS1 and BS2.

This is the best kind of DLC any gamer could hope for.

I don’t agree with these season passes at all. Infinite hasn’t been released to the general public yet Irrational is already planning DLC. Back when DLC was originally created it was a way for developers to add more content to a game as a request of popular demand. It has now become a way for publishers and developers to make a quick buck.

The way I see it developers should take a well deserved break after creating a game and then based on the reception of the game decide whether or not to develop more content. Irrational is the only developer which I still have faith in but after this season pass and the whole pre-purchase nonsense happening on Steam I’m beginning to doubt them. I for one will wait until the DLC is released and reviews are in instead of blindly throwing my money at Irrational.

I don’t see why people are complaining. sure some companies screw people over by releasing things like this with awful DLC, but c’mon! This is Irrational games were talking about! I strongly doubt they will disappoint, especially when Ken Levine is working on the story DLC.

Suffice to say, I’m exited for this, and I’m certainly going to pick one up when I get a chance.
