Irrational Behavior 8: Immigrants and Natives

Does Irrational Games have a mission? Can there possibly be any methods to its well-documented madness? We’re ringing in the new year with an attempt to answer those questions, viewed through the lens of an employee who joined Irrational just four months ago. Discussions with studio members of all stripes–ranging from other relative newcomers all the way to co-founder Ken Levine–reveal that nothing is certain in the world of game development. And that’s just fine.

  • Part 1: The Co-Founder – Ken Levine
  • Part 2: Immigrants – Don Norbury, Jeff Seamster, Josh Davis, Murray Kraft
  • Part 3: Gatekeepers – Bill Gardner, Shawn Robertson, Robert Tzong, Chris Kline
  • Part 4: Natives – Alexx Kay, Nate Wells, Scott Sinclair, Shawn Robertson

Going forward, Irrational podcasts will continue to release once a month, but our plan is to alternate Irrational Behavior with Irrational Interviews. If you already subscribe to the individual podcast RSS feeds, please replace them with this new combined feed that incorporates both Behavior and Interviews.

Great episode. I have to ask, will you guys be submitting or uploading the Irrational Behaviors to Zune? The Irrational Interviews podcast is there, but not behavior. Thanks.

I think there might be some sort of problem with your servers. My podcast downloader keeps redownloading the episode over and over, thinking it hasn’t finished even though the download meter reaches 100%.

When you say “podcast downloader,” what do you mean by that? Are you subscribed through RSS? What software are you using?

For some reason it still is not in iTunes for download. What’s going on with it? I’m assuming it’s on Apple’s end.

Brilliant! Well done, Mr. Remo. I always love hearing about the hiring process at studios. There are so many great stories that come from that tumultuous side of the industry.

I would love to hear more about Freedom Force (inspiration, development, etc.) It is a series that is not discussed much in Irrational’s history.

Excellent, I love these things. So great.

Although at the end, when Chris Remo was wrapping things up, it kind of maybe sounded like the end of a cheesy sitcom…which you should totally make…

Really interesting and entertaining, I’ve listened to all of the Irrational Interviews.

As a trainee game developer using UDK, it’s fascinating to hear such great and lucid minds discuss such great topics.

    Thanks!
