I don't know the legalities involved in downloading the soundtrack, but I will say that it is floating around on the internets.
They were up on the sshock2(.com) fansite not too long ago, but the links seem to be dead.
My suggestion is to use one of those rapidshare/megaupload/mediafire search websites or look around strangebedfellows(.de) to see if they have it.

Install the game, rename the sound file extensions (they¨re called snd.crf and snd2.crf i think) to zip, extract them to a folder. Bam, every loop and sequence in all their cyberpunk ravey madness.

sunjammer, that's an easy way of getting them, but the quality isn't that good.
There is a much better quality version of the songs out there.

How is that even possible, considering these are the raw files from the game? Did Irrational themselves put them out?

In order to save myself from having to type it, I'll just quote.

MysteryDev said:
After seeing so many fan interpretations of the SS2 soundtrack I figured I would upload the real soundtrack ... real as in "ripped from a CD that Eric Brosius burned."

What differences are there from the existing SS2 Soundtrack versions out there?

1) These are the real arrangements created by Eric himself, authored as full soundtrack songs and burned as an album. It's not a fan interpretation or anything else short of the real songs from the real composer.

2) This was personally crafted by Eric Brosius from the original audio, meaning that unlike the 22khz audio files from the shipping game this release is CD quality.

3) The audio quality is much higher than what's out there; I've ripped this from the original CD and have encoded it at 320 q0 mp3.

Basically, this is not only the best quality version of the soundtrack, it's the version of the soundtrack that Eric Brosius himself created. It's not a fan compilation; this is the real deal.

Enjoy!

I won't be posting the link, but shouldn't be too hard to find with an intelligent google search

^ You can't find this for sale anywhere, so why not? I'm serious. Google results bring up nothing. Wherever a physical copy of it exists, I certainly wouldn't sell it. Apparently, it had VERY little production.

Action has yet to taken against this site, as it is still up, and TTLG (Through The Looking Glass) is one of the most profound System Shock fan sites on the Internet.

To all of you, yes, a soundtrack was put together, and somebody at TTLG got their hands on this gem. They're all uploaded in 320 kbps mp3.

Eric Brosius, you are genius. All credit is given to him for the amazing score.

That is super cool! I had no idea!

You know, listening to these tracks now, i realize 2 things.

1. They are totally System Shock. As in, i always thought a System Shock game was on the hard violent side of cyberpunk. It's spot on.

2. I'm happy i turned it off almost immediately when i first started playing the game, because it's so damn dense it obscures way too many of the other ambient detail sounds.

Also, i totally want to do some tribute remixes now. Combichrist style.

Hmm.. Didn't Eric get a bunch of drum programming help from some other guy in the office?

Because it is "illegal". You can't buy a soundtrack CD (it doesn't exist) but the works are still copyrighted by EA, because they are a part of SS2. Of course, the likelihood of them doing anything about it is slim since they don't really care, and it's not like they lose money because of it.
It's more of a "follow forum rules" on my part than anything.
Also, later in the thread the .wav's are released, they are then transcoded to FLAC (for any audiophiles out there).
And while Eric Brosius did have a big part in compiling the sountrack, I think a lot of kudos should be given to Ramin Djawadi and Josh Randall, who also had a large part in it.

I see what you mean.

And what I meant by "give all credit" is really just a kudos in general to him. I had no doubt that there were others involved in its making, and I also give them credit.

Eh, FLAC is nice, it sounds just a little bit better then 320 kbps mp3, but I don't care enough to get it. But if you really want too...

You can also get the soundtrack here right now if you go about it the right way (like I did a few minutes ago): But, hurry, because it's on Youtube and I bet it gets pulled in the near future.

So hey. I got bored the other day and started working on an electro/synth remix of the credits/ops score. This is really early and lacks the requisite voice samples, but hey. Hope i'll get it done this weekend if i can dig out the HD with all my shock samples
