just downloading now, but from what I remember of the 20 min sleep project the subject went pretty insane... that is if I am thinking of the correct situation. |

I have tried the 20 minutes of sleep thing. However, when I woke up it was 2 hours later. Epic fail. |

Anyone who's had a new baby has already gone through the 20 mins of sleep thing. |

I'm working on getting the picture. It's surprising that I don't actually have any good ones in my possession. I'll have to scrounge one up at the future parents-in-law's this weekend. |

A great podcast as per your usual. Glad to know that irrational is just as geeky as I imagined. |

Yeah, I remember hearing the same thing. I've also wanted to try it, and then I heard it was an epic fail. I think they concluded that by only sleeping 20 minutes, you never get to the critical deep sleep which is important for your mind and your insanity. But you can't make a conclusion on one test subject, I say we need to run this test again. |

Oh, and on a different note, can you give the Zune a little love. You have a link to get the podcast on iTunes, but not on the Zune. If you can just give me a URL for the podcast, I can subscribe on my own. Sorry to be the only person with a Zune over an iPod, but my iPod broke on me 3 times, and I hate Apple. The Zune really does have some cool features, especially the not braking on me part. |

Do you have the Zune HD by any chance? I heard good things but never knew anyone that had it. I was wondering if it was actually as good as reviewers made it out to be. |

I just listened to this again, more closely this time, and I want to mention that the production quality is top notch; entertaining and informative, funny and poignant. I went to an Arts School when I was in high school--at least for half of my Junior year and my full Senior year; there it was very different. Since everyone was unique most people decided to flaunt their quirkiness; which is something that I never really did. I am more of a quiet sort of nerd, the type that may seem "normal" until you come to my house and see that it is filled with books. Worse than anything else; I research. Oh how I research! I love Japanese Animation and where most people would buy DVDs I buy books on Japanese popular culture, Japanese psychology, the history of Japanese media; I write articles that explain how the undertones of Japanese Media have a ripple effect on American youth even if that youth group is not fully aware of the symbolism's meaning given that the metaphors have no cultural context outside of Japan... I mean really geeky stuff. So, somehow going to a school where everyone was geeky can almost make it worse; it made me covet my geekiness even more I think. I was so differently geeky that I still didn't fit in. I also went to an all girls school for a year in New Zealand. Still wear the uniform to conventions when I am too lazy to make a costume. ^_^ I guess my point is that this podcast forced me to consider the reasons behind my actions; how was I molded into such an extroverted person but such an introverted geek. I am truly outgoing, love public speaking, etc. etc. But I guess sometimes I would rather design a cosplay outfit over actually wearing it myself. (This could be due to the fact that the first time I cosplayed I accidently did so as a Hentai character... never base your costume on one still picture RESEACRH your character! I think that for many nerds there is a dichotomy to their personality; the personable co worker Monday through Friday and the crazed LARPer on the weekends. In only a few cases are the two personality types able to merge into one full bodied person who is then able to talk about being a geek rather than flaunt it or hide from it. This is all getting a bit existential for me, I think I’ll go play a game or something |

This actually totally made me wanna get into cosplay. ... I wish I had thought of Ulala! Space Channel 5 and Soul Caliber were the only games I ever played on Dreamcast. ...what a waste of money on a console. |

When my old roommate and I were working on our undergrad degrees we would take turns during all-nighters making sure the other person kept their feet elevated and only slept 20 minutes at a time. It got us through school. |

I am so glad you said this it was driving me crazy thinking of where Ulala was from. |

I've had a few goes at polyphasic sleep cycles. It is very, very hard to get into for me, because it demands real discipline. It pretty much demands that when it's time to take a nap, you take a nap, regardless of whether you're at a family dinner or whatever. The sheer, overwhelming sleepiness that hits you if you mess up the cycle is absolutely overpowering. But discipline is one thing. The real problem with it is that the rest of the world just doesn't work that way. It's an absolute nightmare to sync with others. All i could think of was that every workplace should have a nap room or something, and that the social stigma of taking a nap could be removed. I wanted to be able to keep doing it so bad, but I kept being "forced" to mess up the pattern by the demands of the rest of the monophasic world. We really are slaves to sleep. It got me thinking about things like rush hour. Why is it every time i go to work, I have to deal with overcrowded streets, sidewalks, buses, trams, trains... The world is obsessed with this extended period of activity, and it slaps us in the face every morning and evening, and the only solution anyone seems to have is to build more roads. If we adopted a broader understanding of sleep, that would probably elevate us as a species. Bizarre to think about evolution. It's a politically incorrect point of view, but we ARE essentially cutting ourselves off from Darwin through science. The "weak" don't "die in the wild", the "weak" ARE allowed to breed and lead long lives. So by choosing to work together as a society, mankind has torn itself relatively free from the brutal Darwinian natural life cycle. So does that tear us free from evolution altogether? I reckon human evolution has become one of technology and medicine, and changing our society to function better as a unified whole. We've essentially taken the reins, but apparently struggle to solve the very basic flaws of our society. Why do we even HAVE definitions like A-person and B-person? Why is our society not flexibly and intelligently laid out to support ALL "types" of people? Instead we have a system squarely in favor of the A-person, which to me, after experimenting with sleep patterns, is absolutely ludicrous. When I'm "there", I become much, much more productive, much more awake, and much more grounded. Instead we are torn out of bed to conform to the bullshit rule that work starts at 8 and ends at 4, and for some of us that makes us much less than we can be. For no truly good reason. |

I worked on an Ulala costume for a while trying to recycle my Chibi-Moon wig but I abandoned it after realizing that I would not be able to attend the con I was gunning for... I wonder where that thing got off to? I haven't cosplayed in a long time, but I am a big fan of Halloween. This year I dressed up as a splicer. (Huge surprise I know) |

A perfect listen, as usual, but next time I would like to hear something about the whole game development thing again. Not saying that this stuff is bad, but I'm more into the actual development |

The Space Channel 5 Cosplay was definately a blast. As a massive fan of the game I feel the need to let everyone know that they also released a deluxe version on PS2 and it had parts 1 and 2 in it ^^ And oh yes I played them both. @Stabby- if you decide to try out cosplay check out cosplay.com they have listings of cons so you can find one near you ^^ |

@ IG,Sarah....There were so many of them, and they just kept re-spawning in new batches. So many camera flashes and awkward man-giggles followed by the soul crushing line "So what are you from anyway..." @__________@ Remember ladies: no matter how much you admire a skantally clad character, business men admirer it more.. |
