Tips for entry-level programmers?

It's that initial barrier (whether it's really there or if it's just in our head...) of "breaking into the industry" as they say, that seems to be difficult. I am wondering if the seasoned veterans (give or take some seasoning) have any great advice for those of us who have come so far...but still have the task of "standing out" in a highly competitive field. We've done the education (Bachelor's) and sent out the resumes...is there anything that really helps such a person stand out?
