Please tell me your new game will be on PS3Pretty please? Bioshock is one of my favorite games this gen, along with Heavy Rain, and easily my favorite FPS of all time (well, not easily... it's tied with SS2 but I never got to play that whole game). But all I have is a PS3... so please tell me it'll be on that |

So, I don't want to be "that guy", but... Any thoughts on the porting process? I know you're very early in development, but I assume this game will not be built from the ground up for each separate platform. I like the original Bioshock's PS3 port, but there's plenty of fps counters out there who were displeased with the way it was handled. Is it reasonable to assume that you guys will be handling each platform's version, or will you be handing it off to another studio? While I'm at it, any thoughts on the lead development console? I assume 360, since it's easier to develop for. Basically all I'm asking is: I own a 360, but I prefer Playstation 3. Do you guys promise to do your very best to deliver a quality experience across the board? I'm not a huge graphics whore, but I would like to explore Columbia in a manner befitting of the Oohs and Ahs I exclaimed while I first played through the original Bioshock. |

I can agree with that. As long as it's not the orange box-ish then i'll be happy |

I really hope that they port the game to ps3 themselves, I would hate to have another Orange Box quality port. |

If everything goes as its supposed to, They will make 1 build for PC, and 1 for the consoles. The PC build will be better then the consoles, and they will use the main console as 360 as its the mainstream console and will get more sales. But the port to PS3 from the original bioshock was better than the 360, so i hope you will use the consoles to their fullest power. |

Wise developers are doing the safe choice of doing the master version of games first on PS3 and then port if to the 360 for maximum efficiency. Everybody wins in that situation! |

Hi Everyone, We're serious about making sure the PS3 version is great, and here's a little info on how we're going about doing it. To answer your question, we have no plans to hand off the PS3 version of BioShock Infinite to another studio. In fact, it's not a "port" at all. We have a much larger team than we did on the original BioShock, so we're doing simultaneous in-house development on the PS3, 360, and PC versions of the game. We all know that the PS3 is powerful but unique console with its own strengths and challenges. But compared to the PC, the Xbox 360 is challenging too. So instead of declaring a "lead platform" and porting the game to the others, we've instead changed the game engine so that all platforms look (to a programmer) more like a PS3. This means implementing a task-oriented task processor that assumes a NUMA (non-uniform memory access) design that mimics the PPU/SPU split of the PS3. Writing code this way is more difficult for us, but has a key advantage: it's both optimal for the PS3 *and* gives speed improvements on other platforms due to increased cache coherence and more efficient use of multiple processing units. In this thread http://irrationalgames.com/community/forums/bioshock-infinite-general-discussion/graphics#post-66156 I mentioned some of the many big changes we've been making to our engine, one of which is switching to a deferred lighting scheme. This decision was made for many reasons but one important one is that, compared with a Unreal's traditional forward rendering scheme, deferred lighting reduces the amount of work we need to do on the slowest part of the PS3 (the PPU). It also allows us to move work from the GPU to the SPUs, which gives us many options for speeding up rendering on that platform. In terms of production, we're constantly testing our code on the PS3, as it is part of our QA team's daily test plan. All of our programmers have PS3 and 360 dev kits on their desks, and can test on the PS3 just as easily as on the 360. To make sure we find and fix problems as quickly as possible, we have a "continuous integration automated build system" that rebuilds the PS3 version and runs basic tests on it every time a programmer or artist makes a change to the game. It even emails them right away if they break something. In addition, we've also built tools that allow artists and designers to instantly check whether or not their levels will fit in memory on all three platforms, without ever leaving the editor. I hope that gives you some confidence that we're serious about making a great PS3 game. -- |

As a guy who owns all three of those platforms, yet prefers his PS3, this is excellent news all around. |

Again, send our kudos to the dev team. Because, you have actually cleared my doubts about developing from PS3 (sort of saying), when developers say they're doing something first on PS3, is because they're actually doing this, which actually helps all platforms. PS3: does not get shafted. As I said, we all win! |

I am not sold that you are putting as much work in the two other plattform as you do for only one plattfom since you inderectly declared the PS3 as Lead system. I say Once burnt, twice cautious. |

I hate to say it, but as of lately PS3 gotten some extra love from the game developers while the Xbox 360 owners were got the left out. Like AC:Brotherhood, ps3 owners got extra missions and free dlc. Is it just me, or ps3 really gotten some attentions over xbox360 now. I'm sure other games was well i just can't remember them. Well IG, do what needs to be done but also try not to short change xbox360 owners. |

If I'm refering to the TC's post, I'm quite amazed with the fact that such a thread exists within the Bioshock Infinite subject. Can't the title be changed or the thread itself merged into a more relevant thread now that everyone has answers? |

losstarot, note the advertisement in dominique's post, he couldn't care less about this ancient thread. We get these people from time to time trying to make pennies off of improving traffic to websites, etc. |
